eXact Archery - Questions and Answers

Solutions to issues raised by eXact Archery users.

Q - I tried to buy your software but I'm unable to because I live in England. Do you not sell out side your country?

A - We have changed the PayPal profile to allow sales outside the US. You should now be able to make the purchase.

Q - I would like to buy your software, I have a PayPal account but I wish to use it on my laptop and not the computer I’m using to access the internet due to it being a work computer is this a problem?

A - Running the software without an Internet connection is not a problem. Only the downloading and activation of the software use the Internet and we can work around this.

There are two options for getting the software to your computer: download it to a machine with Internet access and copy the file to a CD, or order a CD from us. You can then install the program from the CD.

After installation, when you first open the program you will be prompted to activate it. Follow the instructions on the screen to get this done without an Internet connection. Basically, you will send us an e-mail (or snail mail) message with an activation number and we will return a number that acts as a key.

Q - I tried to buy your bow tuning software from your website and it gave me an error saying it could only ship to confirmed addresses. How can I get this software?

A - We have turned off the PayPal function that blocks purchases from those without a "PayPal confirmed address". That feature is to make sure the shipment goes to the billing address but since this software is downloaded, it’s not really needed.

Q - During installation I am told that the program is trying to replace a file with an older version.

A - Do not replace newer files on your machine with older versions that may be included in eXact Archery.

Q - I’ve Paid through PayPal already. I was downloading program and it told me to restart my computer for updates. I didn’t realize that the program wasn’t downloaded yet. I cant access program download anywhere without paying again. What do I do?

A - Please go to http://www.xarchery.com/xadl.aspx enter your e-mail address and click "Submit". You will then be redirected to a web page that provides links to download the software.

Q - I'm getting an error during installation that say's "failed to register msjro.dll".

A - When installing the software, be sure you’re logged on to the computer as a user that has administrator rights.

If the file msjro.dll is in use it will fail to register. Make sure that you close all other programs when doing the install.

Q - I have just purchased a new bow. It is bare and requires that I add all the accessories (ex. site, rest, peep, etc.) and tune. Would your software help me? This will be my first bow set up from scratch. I do tweak tune my current bow, but it came initially set up by a pro-shop. Also, how does you software work for pendulum sites?

A - eXact Archery will help you get your new bow in perfect tune. You have to understand though that this is not a quick fix but rather a process that is applied over time. You will need to attach all of the accessories, set up the center shot and initial nock point, etc., the program does not help with this part of it.

Once everything is assembled you will paper or bare shaft tune the bow to get things reasonably close. There are interactive guides in the program to help with this. After that is done, you start shooting and entering the target data, first establishing the baseline, and then making small adjustments and comparing targets from before and after the change. The program will analyze the target data for you and tell you if you’re moving in the right direction. This process will work with your pendulum site, or any other site. It compares targets all shot from the same exact setup so everything is relative.

Super fine-tuning a bow takes patience and a lot of shooting but the result is very satisfying. I hope this answers your question. Good luck with your new bow!

Q - How do you take into account the variability of the archer?

A - This was an issue that was brought to light during beta testing of the program. Goals were added for precision and accuracy in order for the program to respond to archers of all abilities. The process works on tuning the rest height / nock point until the goal you set for precision is met on the vertical plane. Then it moves to precision on the horizontal plane, vertical accuracy, and finally horizontal accuracy. (See the web site for more information on Accuracy and Precision.)

After going through the process you tighten up the goals or increase the distance and do it again. This is continuous process improvement that allows you to continue the fine-tuning of your equipment as your skill improves by setting ever-tighter goals. As you decrease the variability in your shooting form, smaller imperfections in your equipment will become apparent through the data analysis, allowing you to further fine-tune your bow and arrows.

Q - Does this software have the ability to print sight tapes?

A - The eXact Archery Software does not print sight tapes. The program is designed to tighten and center your groups by analyzing your targets and suggesting subtle changes in your set up. If we see enough demand for sight tapes we may add that function in a future version.

Q - How long does it take for you to process a check order? I placed the order over a week ago and have heard nothing yet.

A - Check orders will take a few weeks to process. We must wait until your check clears your bank before we can send you a CD or give you access to download the software. We recommend using PayPal for immediate download access.

Q - I recently purchased your software and it works great except for one thing. After I scan a target, align it, and start clicking on the shots, the dot appears about 2 cm lower and to the left from where I am clicking. If I create one manually (without scanning) it works fine. What could be wrong?

A - We were able to duplicate this problem by hitting the align button twice (or double clicking it), then realigning the scanned target to the grid. Try aligning a scanned target to the grid from scratch and then save your settings. Once you’ve done this, when you open a scanned target and click the align button once, the grids should match up without making any additional adjustments.

Q - I had to start a new profile on my computer and I am having problems with the software now. When trying to enter data I get a message that says "3706 - Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed".

A - This error message means that the program cannot connect to the database. To repair the installation, manually backup your database file, reinstall the program, and manually restore the database file.

Follow these steps:

  • Run Windows update to make sure you have the latest Microsoft Data Access Components and data providers.
  • Find the database file C:\Program Files\eXact Archery\XArchery.mdb
  • Change the name to XArchery.BAK
  • Save a copy of this file to a disk, flash drive, or CD. This is all of your data.
  • Reinstall eXact Archery.
  • Delete the NEW database file C:\Program Files\eXact Archery\XArchery.mdb
  • Change the name of the original database file (from step 2 above) back to XArchery.mdb
